To establish a place of welcome and hospitality for all members of the community with a view to extending God’s kingdom

Fulfilling this vision brings people from different churches into the Centre each day, leading and taking part in the many different activities and expressing God’s love through their service

Community cafe

Our friendly coffee shop is open to everyone. It’s a welcoming place where you can meet for a chat or make new friends. We get all ages from parents and grandparents with babies and toddlers to senior citizens. All are welcome and important to us.

We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 – to 12:30. (Apart from Christmas week, Bank Holidays and during August).

Homemade cakes available every open day, bacon butties on Thursday and Community lunch on Friday, a two course, no choice, meal cooked on the premises. (Vegetarian option always available.)

Meeting Point is run by volunteers who will be happy to serve you with hot or cold drinks, snacks, toast or the ever popular tea cakes! Many of our products are Fair Trade.

Our dedicated children’s area has high chairs and toys for preschool children,. Nappy changing facilities available.

Small Talk

Small Talk is the name of the church baby and toddler group, of which there are 2 sessions. Children and their carers meet on Wednesday mornings from 10.00 – 11.30 and Wednesday afternoons from 1.00 – 2.30. It takes place in the main hall and weather permitting, in the garden. A large variety of toys are available for play. An area is separated for young babies where baby chairs and age-appropriate toys are provided. As well as toys, a craft activity is also available for those who enjoy gluing and sticking . The fun pauses towards the end of the session for drinks and snacks with tea and coffee for carers, before finishing with a short singing session and a Bible message.

Please be aware that there is a capacity limit and we operate on a first-come basis.

Please drop in to either group for a taster session.

Baby Bank

Witham URC Baby Bank was set up by Witham URC in Oct 2022 in response to the cost of living crisis. We wanted to help the families we were already in contact with through Smalltalk – Witham URC and other families who live in the area, with more specifically, the cost of life with kids 👶🏼 and the idea of running a baby bank was put into action. Whilst the mission to help local families with the cost of living has been a successful one, as an Eco Church we can also appreciate the impact we are having on the environment by providing a space to recycle the items swapped & donated every week.
The baby bank, like everything at Witham URC is run entirely on the steam of volunteers who themselves run on the cake served in the Community Cafe 🍰 and is open every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
So, how does it work?
In a nutshell, parents and carers are welcome to bring any items they no longer need and swap them for something that they do such as;
Clothing & footwear
Toys
Books
Sterilisers & bottle warmers
Puzzles (with all the pieces) 😅
Buggies & pushchairs
Walkers & bouncers
Comforters
Bottles
Blankets
Towels
Monitors
Stair gates
Baths & bath toys
High chairs
We do also have a supply of food, milk, nappies and wipes available for those that need them. Whilst it’s by no means compulsory, there is the option for visitors to make a donation by cash or card if it’s affordable – any money raised helps us continue to supply consumable items through the baby bank.
All we ask is that any items you bring in to swap are clean and useable; please only take what you need; contribute what you can even if that’s just a like or share on social media; and whilst it may seem obvious, please don’t take items to sell on. Whilst we understand that times are tough, it can be really disheartening for people contributing to the bank to see their items appear on selling pages. Instead, if you are struggling please reach out, because we will help however we can 💚

All are welcome to join this group for a free, fun social time of art. No experience required. Please bring your own equipment. Thursday afternoons 1pm – 3pm. Please note we do not meet on the 1st Thursday of the month.

Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.

Billy Graham

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.
